Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement

 Girard-Perregaux has unveiled a groundbreaking new escapement which employs radical new techniques and materials.

The design promises to offer huge potential advances in precision and friction reduction over Swiss lever escapement designs.

The invention's moniker is a direct homage to Constant Girard, the founder of Girard-Perregaux whose dedication to the science and technology of chronometry was tireless through his life.

Made up of five individual elements, the Constant Escapement's heart is an etched silicon blade which is just slightly thicker than a human hair. The prideful result of extremely precise manufacturing techniques and cutting-edge technology, the silicon blade is able to harness and transmit energy with great efficiency. This optimizes amplitude and ensures a highly consistent rate. Girard-Perregaux stated at an April 7th, 2008 SIHH (Salon International de Haute Horlogerie) press conference that it hopes to incorporate the Constant Escapement in a fully functional watch by 2010.
