In January of 2009, the Luxury Jewelers Resource Group, an organization of 14 high-end jewelry retailers achieved recognition from Training Magazine for its high level of excellence in cultivating professional development. In total, 125 organizations were represented and ranked--among them such well-known companies as Microsoft, Best Buy, Wachovia Bank, and Sun Microsystems--their merit decided by a range of criteria to include both financial commitment to worker development, and to what degree such company efforts achieve their intended goals measured against desired business objectives.
The jewelry companies represented in the Luxury Jewelers Resource Group are Traditional Jewelers, Tivol, Tapper's Diamonds & Fine Jewelry, Mann's Jewelers, Bruce G. Weber Precious Jewels, Donoho's Jewellers, Lux Bond & Green, Bachendorf's, Lee Michaels, London Jewelers, Hyde Park, Hamilton, Fink's Jewelers, and the Johnson Family's Diamond Cellar. The Group enables a sharing of information and professional opinion, to produce a comprehensive improvement of the results for each member company. An LJRG Leadership Academy exists to promote the skills and professionalism of employees and company managers, facilitate effective team building, and ensure optimal development of an organized and cohesive staff. Members of the Group share the view that such focused training is key to their progressive business growth and continued image as leaders in their sphere of industry.
"As large independent retailers, we at LJRG must compete with the best stores in the country," says LJRG president Marc Fink. "We can only be successful at that if our employees are as knowledgeable and skilled as possible. The Leadership Academy has given us a step up on the competition not only because of the quality of the training, but by the loyalty it inspires from employees who understand that we appreciate their value to our organizations and want them to grow with us."
Leadership Academy seminars are carried out by the Luxury Jewelers Resource Group on an invitation-only basis. This policy is in place to ensure that only top performing employees with the best potential for career growth or development as leaders gain access to the valuable training, which is formulated by the LJRG senior management in conjunction with consultants. Human resources, security issues, skill in business, service, and leadership development are some of the varied foci of the curriculum.
Since its establishment, over 150 employees from the breadth of the various LJRG jewelry retailers have successfully completed the Leadership Academy program. A Web-based "post-graduate" program has been developed by the Luxury Jewelers Resource Group to facilitate follow-up training.
