French free-diver and Ball watch ambassador Guillaume Néry attained a new world record in the Constant Weight discipline of free diving, reaching a depth of 113 meters off the coast of Nice, France on July 3, 2008. Despite strong currents which made measuring the dive difficult, officials determined after some deliberation that the 113 meter depth indicated by the depth gauge was indeed the correct measurement.
For this dive, Néry chose a Ball Engineer Master II Diver GMT watch. Featuring a DLC-coated stainless steel case and a rubber strap, this timepiece utilizes an self-winding movement with a date display and a supplementary GMT indicator for a second time zone. The unidirectional bezel is controlled by the secondary crown, and enables the safe calculation of diving times. Like all Ball timepieces, the Engineer Master II Diver GMT utilizes a system of micro tritium gas tubes on its dial and bezel to ensure extremely bright and uninterrupted illumination.
Néry has found the GMT function of this Ball timepiece to be extremely useful for his active schedule, which takes him all over the world to pursue new free diving challenges. Néry has been a Ball Explorer since 2006.
