Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre will commemorate its "Tides of Time" partnership with the UNESCO World Heritage Center and the International Herald Tribune by holding a special online auction on February 16, 2009. It is part of a comprehensive effort by Jaeger-LeCoultre and the two organizations to protect the world's most notable and sensitive marine environments, in addition to providing ongoing public education about the importance of these ecosystems.
The sale will feature "Prototype No. 1" of the Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Tides of Time watch, a model with an alarm function and a world time complication debuted by Jaeger-LeCoultre at the SIHH 2009 exhibition in Geneva. The titanium and stainless steel prototype watch to be auctioned substitutes three of the cities on the dial ring with the natural sites of Scandola, Galapagos and Tubbataha--areas set to benefit from a World Heritage preservation program backed by Jaeger-LeCoultre.
