SIHH 2009: Vacheron Constant Lady Kalla Flame Watch

With the debut of the spectacular Lady Kalla Flame watch, the centuries-old reputation of Vacheron Constantin for presenting horological masterworks of the highest order is gloriously reconfirmed.  A creation demanding the utmost from the master jeweler and goldsmith, the Lady Kalla Flame pays homage to historic Vacheron Constantin haute joaillerie, while introducing to the world a spectacular and expressive new diamond cut.  

The Vacheron Constantin Lady Kalla Flame watch is entirely crafted from 18-karat white gold.  This precious framework serves as a supple display for the 140 flame cut diamonds that entirely cover the case and bracelet.  A specialized emaillement technique reduces the underlying metal to its absolute minimum, thus creating the effect that the watch is made entirely from interlocking diamonds.  The dial is paved with an additional 60 flame cuts.  In all, 36.50 carats of diamonds--each painstakingly selected for color, clarity, and exactitude of cut--enrobe the striking form of this Vacheron Constantin timepiece from the Metiers D'Art collection.

The creation process of the uniquely feminine flame cut is nearly as remarkable as the watch itself.  Mathematically developed for a seductive display of luster, radiance and light diffusion, the 57 facets of the flame cut converge over a striking asymmetric shape, producing an effect of dazzling exoticism.  As a testament to its excellence, the flame cut is the first cut in two decades to be officially recognized by the prestigious Gemological Institute of America (GIA). 

Animating the Vacheron Constantin Lady Kalla Flame watch is the manually wound 1005 caliber.  A refined example of the watchmaking arts, this slender mechanical movement stands just 3.60mm in height; bridges display traditional Cotes de Geneve and anglage finishing, and the mainplate is circular grained.  Balance frequency is 19,800 vibrations per hour, and power reserve is approximately 30 hours.  A crown located on the caseback controls winding and the setting of the hands.
