The Zenith ChronoMaster Open Retrograde watch brings another appealing horological accomplishment to the classically elegant ChronoMaster collection. Crafted exclusively from 18K gold or platinum, the round cases of these Zenith timepieces display the subtle yet recognizable design elements unique to Zenith, particularly notable in the multi-tiered bezel and the stepped case lugs. The ChronoMaster T Open Retrograde watch measures 40 millimeters in diameter, while it's larger stablemate the Grande ChronoMaster XXT Open Retrograde comes in at a particularly stately 45 millimeters. Superb workmanship manifests itself in the dials of these timepieces. Each is crafted from solid gold, which is then intricately decorated with a complex "grain d'orge" guilloche pattern. The applied hour indices and hands are also crafted from solid gold. These pleasingly executed elements are counterbalanced by the technical fascination generated by the balance wheel and escapement, which appears proudly through the distinctive dial aperture. The Zenith ChronoMaster Open Retrograde watch utilizes an exceptional self-winding movement. Designed and manufactured by Zenith, the El Primero 4023 caliber features the famous column-wheel controlled chronograph mechanism which has made the Zenith name synonymous with mechanical excellence since 1969; its most celebrated attribute is a rapid balance wheel frequency of 36,000 semi-oscillations per hour which permits extraordinary timing precision. However, this watch also has other technical specialties in store: A power reserve indicator displays the status of tension in the mainspring, and a semi-circular indicator showcases a retrograde date display, from which the watch takes its name. This complex mechanism displays fine finishing and a solid gold central winding rotor all of which can be admired through the exhibition sapphire caseback.
