Ulysse Nardin Sonata Watch

Ulysse Nardin reached a new level of watch making with the introduction of the Sonata. The Sonata is a true masterpiece in the world of complicated timepieces. This timepiece combines a countdown alarm, day, date, and GMT/UTC functions all in a single timepiece. Each one of these functions is displayed on the dial of the watch. This is not a dial or a watch for beginners, but the more one studies the Sonata, the more intrigued one becomes.

To understand and appreciate this fine timepiece we must describe each complication. First the Ulysse Nardin Sonata measures the hours and minutes with two sweep hands that feature wonderfully unique oval shapes with luminescent arrows at the end. The hour markers are represented by small triangles that compliment the hour and minute hands. The straight blue second hand is the simplest design feature of this timepiece. Ulysse has placed the date window at four o’clock making it easy to read. Moving down the dial the next complication is the dual time zone which is set in a separate sub dial with a blue marker hand. Continuing around the dial in a clockwise direction the alarm on/off indicator is set at nine o’clock. With a red indicator hand this feature is easily visible.

Ulysse very smartly placed the two alarm windows on the top of the dial. The left hand sub dial is the count down indicator, which displays the number of minutes remaining until the alarm sounds. To the right is the actual alarm setting sub dial indicating the alarm time. One controls all the settings of the watch via a dual crown system, one placed at three o’clock and one at nine o’clock. Both crowns have pushers set above and below to set the dual time and the alarm functions. The Sonata is powered by the patented UN-66 movement and his water resistant to 30 meters.
