2009 Chronometry Competition To Be Held In Le Locle

Reviving the noble tradition of observatory competitions, the Watch Museum of Le Locle, Chateau des Monts will organize a chronometer competition which will take place in May 2009.  The participants can be individuals, affiliated with schools, or work for a watch brand or movement manufacturer.  During the competition, jurors selected for their independence and scientific credentials will evaluate the entries.  Dr. Claude Nicollier will preside over the honorary committee.

The contest will be limited to mechanical movements, and a range of specifications have been provided.  Movements will undergo tests of the COSC, the Observatory in Besan?on, as well as being subjected to vibration and magnetism examinations carried out by the University of Applied Science ARC Engineering in Le Locle.

Rules for the chronometry contest will be finalized in May of 2008, at which time applicants may apply; the cutoff for applications is September 5, 2008 at 10:00 GMT.  Names will be announced later in September, with the contest officially starting on May 23, 2009.
