Palladium seems poised to be the next hot metal for luxury watches, its popularity spurred in part by the ever increasing costs of gold and platinum, as well as the disruptions to the supply chain. The Palladium Alliance International (PAI) reports that use of the brilliant white metal was extremely widespread among the most prestigious watchmaking firms and jewelry designers alike at Baselworld 2008.
Among watch manufacturers, Rolf Schnyder of Ulysse Nardin was extremely positive about the qualities and versatility of palladium, while Parmigiani Fleurier revealed that palladium was being used in 32 percent of its watch collections. According to PAI, Cartier also experienced great success with palladium, selling every one of its limited edition Pasha de Cartier watches which were made from the metal.
