The historic collaboration between Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre and luxury carmaker Aston Martin has reached its highest expression in new Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX timepiece, created exclusively for owners of the V12 Aston Martin DBS.
For the first time, a luxury mechanical watch is integrated with a transponder, which allows the opening and locking of a vehicle. Matched to the owners specific car by Aston Martin dealers, the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX 2 DBS Transponder watch enables the opening and locking of the car merely by pressing on the crystal of the watch, in the designated zones between eight and nine, and three and four o'clock. A product of more than 18 months of collaborative development between Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre, the DBS Transponder watch draws upon the innovation first seen in the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Chronograph from 2006--the world's first mechanical chronograph devoid of chronograph push-pieces, and operable entirely through the sapphire crystal. With the DBS Transponder watch, Jaeger-LeCoultre engineers and watchmakers had to overcome an array of new challenges, including how to integrate a tiny antenna which would transmit signals flawlessly, yet not harm the function of the movement with potentially damaging electrical fields.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 DBS Transponder watch has been given a number of subtle styling details which link it to the Aston Martin DBS car. The dial details evoke the elegant subtleties of Aston Martin instrumentation, while a metallic grey DBS symbol and unobtrusive Aston Martin emblem make the direct association clear.
Commenting upon the development of this exceptional watch, Jerome Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre, stated: "This is one of the most exciting projects our team has developed in the area of functional innovation in watchmaking. The collaboration with all levels of the Aston Martin organization has been deep and exhilarating, and no doubt this transpires in the breakthrough nature and design of the AMVOX2 DBS Transponder itself."
Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin said: "This is the definitive expression of the partnership between Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre, I'm delighted that we have been able to premiere this technology in such an elegant solution. It is the first time horology and automotive engineering have been combined in this way."
