URWERK UR103 Hexagon Watch, Limited Edition Of 10 Pieces In Black Platinum

Avant garde luxury watchmaker URWERK has revealed their new UR103 Hexagon watch, the latest in the brand's love affair with mysterious black, which can be traced back to 1999, when the young brand debuted its iconic UR102.  The URWERK UR103 Hexagon watch features a 50 X 36mm case which is crafted from blackened platinum.  Limited to an edition of just 10 pieces for the world, the timepiece utilizes a hand-wound Caliber 3.03 movement which presents the unique URWERK system of rotating hour satellites; the back side of the watch also showcases a power reserve indicator, and displays for subsidiary seconds and 15 minutes.  Balance wheel frequency of the movement is 21,600 alternations per hour, and power reserve is 43 hours.

A unique aesthetic calling card for the URWERK UR103 Hexagon watch--and one which clearly gives it its name--is the hexagonal shape of the rotating satellites.  Another touch which adds to this timepiece's exceptionally arresting presence are the bold luminous applications, which glow a distinctive menthol blue in the darkness.  

Revealing some insights into his fascination with the color black, URWERK master watchmaker and co-founder Felix Baumgartner stated, "The color Black evokes mechanical memories of the parts of old clocks that my father restored in his workshop.  Since then, black has been synonymous in my mind with timelessness.  Since I was 16 years old, black has also been the color of my third eye, i.e. my watchmaker's loupe.  This is my primary tool and we are rarely parted; my black loupe is a part of me and I often forget that it rests on my forehead when I leave the atelier; it is the symbol of my craft."
