JeanRichard, a manufacturer of fine Swiss timepieces, has screamed into motorcycle speed history at the Bonneville Salt Flats. With a prototype of a new JeanRichard watch upon his wrist, Roosevelt "Rosey" Lackey piloted his 174-horsepower MV Agusta F4 1000R 312 to a top speed of 192.670 miles per hour, and maintained an average speed of 191.642 miles per hour over a 10-mile course. The new recorded speed, which is pending FIM certification, surpasses the record set by Lackey (187.726 mph single speed/185.882 MPH combined speed) at the 58th Annual Bonneville National Speedweek land trials conducted in August. Despite the success of the run, the team has indicated that the accomplishment is a mere warm up to the ultimate goal of smashing the 200 mph barrier--something they hope to attain by the end of the week, weather conditions permitting.
Ron Jackson, President of JeanRichard USA was on hand, and presented the special Jean Richard watch to Rosie Lackey before the rider geared up for his blistering run. The new timepiece will be introduced in 2009, and follows up already debuted JeanRichard models which pay homage to MV Agusta and high-speed motorcycle performance. Earlier in the year, JeanRichard honored Italian motorbike racing great Giacomo Agostini with a special "God of Speed" award, and a Paramount watch whose details and materials were drawn from the MV Agusta Brutale motorcycle.
