Among the rare and important watches to be offered in the October 16th Antiquorum fall auction, is a gold Longines wristwatch once owned by Albert Einstein. The tonneau-shaped watch, made of 14K gold bears the inscription "Prof. Albert Einstein, Los Angeles, Feb. 16, 1931." According to information from Antiquorum, the timepiece was manufactured by Longines in 1930, and presented to the famous scientist one year later. The white dial bears large gold-colored Arabic figures, a feature doubtless appreciated by Einstein, a sufferer of poor eyesight. Pre-sale estimates for the historic timepiece have been placed between $25,000 and $35,000.
In addition to the Albert Einstein Longines watch, the Antiquorum fall auction will present a number of other notable timepieces, including a square-button chronograph perpetual calendar from Patek Philippe dated to 1956, an Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars tourbillon minute repeater watch, a Rolex Milgauss Ref. 6541 from 1958, and a platinum A. Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual watch.
The auction will take place at Antiquorum's US headquarters in New York City. Prior to the sale, previews will be held in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and New York.
