The fruit of eighteen months of intensive cooperation between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin finally came to bear publicly in the elegant city of Paris: here, in coincidence with the Paris Auto Show, invited guests and the CEOs of the two luxury brands came together to celebrate the first live demonstration of the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 DBS Transponder watch, the world's first mechanical timepiece that governs access to an exquisite luxury car.
Jean-Pierre Vigato's upscale Apicius restaurant proved to be an ideal setting for the much anticipated union of haute horlogerie and the exceptional car building. On the terrace, a beautiful Aston Martin DBS car in lightning silver stood ready to receive its "commands" from the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX DBS watch--a task accomplished with flawless precision, much to the delight of the sophisticated audience, and the heads of both companies: A touch on the watch's crystal in the appropriate place produced a headlight flash from the DBS car. Another surprise--yet another demonstration of the ingenious engineering embodied in the DBS transponder watch--came when guests were able to press both the "open" and "close" sections simultaneously: this action triggered a vehicle locator function whereby the lights flashed for several seconds, all without unlocking the car. This feature is one of the five codes which have been designed to be communicated with total security between a Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX DBS Transponder and its specifically authorized Aston Martin car.
Before the official demonstration of the watch's capabilities, Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin and Jerome Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre both expressed great pleasure in the historic accomplishment.
"We are gathered here to celebrate the exceptional partnership between Aston Martin and Jaeger-LeCoultre, said Bez. "Our two companies enjoy a longstanding relationship built on a shared vision and shared values. Aston Martin engineers worked with those of Jaeger-LeCoultre in developing the AMVOX2 DBS Transponder, a combination of high-tech sports engineering and exceptional fine watchmaking expertise–-and a world first in the field."
Voicing his agreement with the Aston Martin chief, Jerome Lambert added, "The partnership is a wonderful adventure, which after 4 years demonstrates thanks to this watch the fusion about the best of Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin. This adventure is also very special for all the engineers and designers teams as they had to find some new solutions to integrate these new technologies in the watch".
The AMVOX2 DBS Transponder will be available for viewing through the conclusion of the 2008 Paris Motor Show on October 19th, at the Aston Martin booth. It was also displayed at the Geneva Classics car show on October 3rd through October 5th.
