The $20 million lawsuit of Swiss watch brand Raymond Weil against actress Charlize Theron for breach of contract will proceed to trial, despite a motion for dismissal by Theron's attorneys earlier in the year.
Charlize Theron, who won a Best Actress Oscar for the film "Monster" in 2004, was selected to represent Raymond Weil's global advertising through October 2005 to December 2006, a campaign which cost the company approximately $20 million, according to certain published accounts. Raymond Weil's lawsuit centers around a news conference from March 2006, in which Theron appeared wearing a Dior watch. According to Raymond Weil, this act was a violation of her contract, which stipulated exclusive endorsement of Raymond Weil timepieces.
According to the judge's ruling, the trial must take place within the month of October 2008.
