Jaeger-LeCoultre And Unesco Unite For Marine Environments

Long a famous reference for fine Swiss watches, Jaeger-LeCoultre is increasingly making a name for itself in another field: environmental activism.  Noted for its alliance with environmentally outspoken actor Leonardo DiCaprio, the famous watch manufacturer from Le Sentier recently formed a three-year partnership with the Unesco World Heritage Center in the interest of preserving marine habitats which are particularly vulnerable to degredation.  

To raise awareness, Jaeger-LeCoultre will publish information on eight Unesco World Heritage locations on a part of its website entitle "Tides of Time", and sponsor the publication of these same vulnerable areas on a special section of the International Herald Tribune through March of 2009.  The sites focused on include the Galapagos Islands, Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the Whale Sanctuary of El Vizcaino in Mexico, and the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System.  

The Jaeger-LeCoultre I, an unmanned submersible craft developed by the watch brand in conjunction with TMT, will be also be made available to Unesco for various research projects.  In 2007, this craft descended to a depth of 1000 meters off the coast of Maui; attached to the craft for the duration of the descent and ascent was a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving watch, which survived the immense pressure changes unscathed.
