Omega Beijing 2008 Unique No. 8 Collection Auctioned To Aid Sichuan Earthquake Victims

To commemorate the 2008 Olympic Games and the city of Beijing, Omega created a unique set of 32 limited edition timepieces and an equally black spectacular "pagoda" presentation case in black lacquered wood whose design was inspired by traditional Chinese architecture.   In October, the famous Swiss watch brand and official Olympic timekeeper united with Sotheby's Hong Kong to offer the one-of-a-kind Omega Olympic collection in a charity auction.   When the hammer fell, the Omega Beijing 2008 Unique No. 8 Collection had found a buyer for HK $9,620,000 (USD $1,231,071) 

The full proceeds obtained in the Sotheby's sale will go directly to the "All-Weather Playground" project run by the Chinese Athletes Education Foundation.  The goal of this organization is to utilize sports and other team activities to ease the suffering of those affected by the disastrous Sichuan earthquake.  

Regarding the successful results of the auction, Omega President Stephen Urquhart said, "There is no other Olympic collectible like this and there can only be one owner of such a singular collection, but Omega is extremely pleased that by offering it in this special auction, the benefits of these remarkable timepieces can be extended to so many youth in Sichuan."
