Blancpain Carrousel Volant Donated To Forbidden City

Swiss luxury watch brand Blancpain has been given a rare honor: to represent modern watchmaking art at the Palace Museum in Beijing's famous Forbidden City.  To commemorate this extraordinary invitation, the world's "oldest watch manufacturer" created a special version of its recently introduced Carrousel Volant Une Minute watch. 

Dubbed the Blancpain Qiankun Carrousel, the unique 18K white gold wristwatch displays a number of subtle yet significant details that reveal its special status.  The dial, for instance, showcases a cutaway section that not only exposes the finely finished keyless works, but merges with the aperture for the rotating karrusel to form a yin-yang symbol.  The back of the Qiankun Carrousel is engraved with the words "Piece Unique" and "The Palace Museum", while the sapphire exhibition back reveals a finely detailed rotor in engraved gold; the ornate winding mass features the names of both Blancpain and 18th century Chinese emperor Qianlong against a depiction of the Forbidden City, as well as "1735"--the year which Qianlong ascended to the imperial throne, and Blancpain was founded in Villeret.  

Blancpain unveiled the Qiankun Carrousel watch at a special donation ceremony.  Showcased in a noble presentation case, this commemorative Blancpain Carrousel joins over 1,000 mechanical timepieces from both the 18th and 19th centuries.  In all, the 160,000 square-meter Palace Museum comprises more than 1,500,000 works of art, which are viewed and enjoyed by millions of visitors each year.
