Complicated watchmaking will be in the spotlight as the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) presents a special exhibition at the Munich Time 2008 watch fair in Germany. Dubbed "The World of Complication Watches", FHH's impressive showcase will offer visitors approximately 65 timepieces, along with a special emphasis on the horological traditions of Southern Germany. Among the rarities on display will be watches with astronomic functions, as well as masterworks with chiming or musical mechanisms.
The watch exhibits were contributed by an array of important watch brands affiliated with the FHH, and leading Swiss museums. Among the latter are the Musee International d'horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Geneva's Museum of Watchmaking and Enamel, the Museum of Watchmaking in Le Locle, Chateau-des-Monts, and the Clock and Watch Museum Beyer Zurich.
“The world of watches is a true cosmos of inventions,” said Nicolas de Quatrebarbes, FHH representative to Germany. “We’re proud to have the privilege of presenting this European cultural treasure to the German public for the first time at this comprehensive show, and are looking forward to the visitors' response and interest.”
The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie was founded by Audemars Piguet, Girard-Perregaux and the Richemont Group in 2005, with the avowed goal of preserving the traditions and skill-sets of watchmaking. Currently twenty-eight prestigious watch brands are partners of the FHH, contributing their know-how to programs which assure the continuation of the industry.
