DeWitt Opens Watchmaking Museum In Meyrin-Satigny

Swiss luxury watchmaker Montres DeWitt has inaugurated a new museum in Meyrin-Satigny, the same town in which the firm has been situated since the beginning of 2008.  Horological history and the tools of the watchmaker are the primary focus of the museum, whose creation is the direct result of founder Jerome de Witt's enthusiasm for haute horlogerie.  

Visitors to the DeWitt Museum can peruse more than 250 exhibits which span a historical range from the 17th to the 20th century.  Footnotes accompany each display, giving a viewer a deeper comprehension of the various manufacturing stages, some of which are no longer employed in the age of modern industrial processes.  Among the many fascinating displays include antique wheel-cutting machines, rolling-mills, and workbenches.  Also featured are a series of 18th and 19th century guillocheuses--machines which are indispensable to the realization of traditional guilloche engraving techniques.
