Christie's "Important Watches" Sale To Take Place In Geneva On November 17th

On November 17th in Geneva, auction house Christie's will hold an "Important Watches" sale that presents a showcase of exceptional timepieces from Patek Philippe, Rolex, A. Lange & Sohne, and Urban Jurgensen.  Also to be offered will be a group of significant watches with musical or automaton complications.

The sale highlight is a platinum Patek Philippe tourbillon pocket watch, created for famed Patek Philippe collector Henry Graves Jr. in 1932.  Property of the Graves family until 1989, this remarkable tourbillon made history when it set a precision world record at the 1933 Geneva Astronomical Observatory Timing Contest.  Pre-sale estimates are 700,000 to 1,200,000 Swiss Francs.

A specially curated section will present a series of fifteen timepieces from Patek Philippe and Rolex which bear the dial signature of retailer Tiffany & Co. The Patek Philippes here range from a split-second chronograph in pink gold, to a Ref. 2523/1 world time wristwatch. Rolex is represented by a Ref. 1680 Submariner, and a particularly rare Ref. 6239 "Paul Newman" Daytona from 1968.  Pre-sale estimates for the latter watch have been set at 120,000-180,000 Swiss Francs.  

A private A. Lange & Sohne watch collection will offer some of the finest models from the prestigious Saxon brand.  Among the lots are a Langematik Perpetual, a platinum Datograph, and an example of the rare "Pour le Merite" Tourbillon, a remarkable watch which defined the re-emergence of the house of Lange in 1994.   

The category of musical and automaton watches is highlighted by a rare pocket watch from Louis Audemars, circa 1845, made for a important Russian client.  Set with diamonds, the ornate repeating watch presents an automated scene with a hunter and bear on the Taiga.  The pre-sale estimate is 100,000-200,000 Swiss Francs.
