Many of the world's finest luxury watch brands will lend their support to "Only Watch 2009", a charity auction in Monaco whose proceeds directly support ongoing research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Held every two years to coincide with the Monaco Yacht Show, Only Watch is conducted under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II.
This year's event, set for September 24th, will proceed with the sponsorship and assistance of auction house Patrizzi & Co. A diverse range of prestigious brands, including Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Bovet Fleurier, Breguet, Cartier, Corum, Franck Muller, Hublot, Jaquet Droz, MB&F, Montblanc, Omega, Patek Philippe, Piaget, TAG Heuer, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin and Zenith will present "Piece Unique" creations or watches which are No. 1 in a limited series. Patrizzi & Co. Auctioneers will take this group of special timepieces on a pre-sale promotional tour in the late Summer and early Fall. At the conclusion of Only Watch 09, the auction's funds will be contributed to the Monegasque Association Against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and support its related international research efforts focused on combating the degenerative genetic disorder.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy appears most commonly in male children, affecting approximately 1 in every 3,500 boys. Marked by a gradual atrophying of muscles in both the lower and upper body, the disorder eventually affects the heart and respiratory functions. In addition to its debilitating effects on the body, DMD greatly diminishes the life expectancy of its victims. The financial generosity of the watch brands affiliated with Only Watch have been an important factor in the excellent progress made in the genetic research conducted towards Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
