In a continuation of the support it has offered since 2003, Rolex underwrote this year's Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala, which took place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. 2008 marked the 25th anniversary of the gala, which was established by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan to honor the memory of her mother, actress Rita Hayworth. Hayworth, one of the most celebrated stars of the 1940's experienced an onset of Alzheimer's disease extremely early in her life.
In attendance at the Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala was Allen Brill, the president of Rolex Watch USA. Frank Bennack, Jr. of the Hearts Corporation, an important supporter of the gala, received a Corporate Award from Brill, as recognition for his generosity.
Since its inception, the Rita Hayworth Gala has succeeded in raising more than $50 million for the research and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
