Tag Heuer Autavia Watch

Tag Heuer’s Autavia is the ultimate in retro looking sport chronographs. This chronograph was originally designed for car dashboards when it was designed in 1933. Forty years later Tag Heuer created a wristwatch version of the Autavia and the legend was born. Tag took the development of the Autavia to the next level in 1969 when they began using the Chronomatic movement, which was the first ever automatic chronograph movement made. The Autavia is a large watch measuring in at 41.2 mm, with a Tachymetric bezel.

Looking at the Autavia from a distance one immediately notices that the crown is set at 9 o’clock. The future success of this design was ensured when the famous racing driver Jo Siffert began wearing the Autavia. The chrono pushers set at two and four o’clock truly resemble the pushers on a stop watch. Because there is no crown between them, they are easily operated, especially if you are driving a race car with gloves. Tag Heuer has smartly kept the dial options to a minimum to keep the unique look of the Autavia. This watch is only available in two dial colors. This first is a white (or opalescent) with black sub dials, or a black dial with silver sub dials. The white and black combination is nicely accented with a blue seconds hand and blue hands on the sub dial. The black dial version has a red second and sub dial hands giving it a somewhat more serious look. The Tonneau case shape is subtle yet distinctive feel.

The steel bracelet on the Autavia is built for speed and durability. The bracelet is linked by four individual hinges between each link giving it a racy look.
