IWC Aquatimer Watch

IWC’s Aquatimer is a dive watch that any serious diver or timepiece collector would be proud to own. IWC first manufactured the Aquatimer in the 1970’s for the famous ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau. IWC reintroduced the Aquatimer in 2004. There are five versions of the Aquatimer: The Automatic, Automatic 2000, Chrono-Automatic, Split Minute Chronograph, and the Cousteau Divers versions

The Aquatimer collection begins with the Automatic. All of the Aquatimer’s feature a unique mechanical inner rotating bezel. Unlike other dive watches with externally rotating bezels that risk getting caught or jammed this bezel is protected inside the case. The seconds dial has a stop function, and the date window is un obtrusively set at six o’clock. IWC designed all the Aquatimer’s to be water resistant to 1000m. The Aquatimer Automatic is only available in steel with a black dial. The Automatic 2000 is similar to the Automatic, but has yellow luminescent markers on the inner bezel and is water resistant to 2000m. Both watches have a 42mm case, and a screw down crown which is a feature of every Aquatimer model.

If you prefer a chrono dive watch consider the Aquatimer Chrono Automatic.  This 42 mm watch features a chronograph with sub dials set at six, nine and twelve o’clock. The day and date window are visible at three o’clock. IWC offers the Chrono Automatic with a black/gray or black/yellow dial. There are four case/bracelet combinations: steel with steel bracelet, steel with rubber strap, titanium with titanium bracelet, or titanium with rubber strap. The Aquatimer Split Minute Chronograph is the most complicated timepiece in this collection. This split chrono is water resistant to 120m, has yellow luminous markers on the hands and dial. At 44mm the case is large and will be noticed, making this watch a great conversation piece.
