IWC Vintage Collection Aquatimer Automatic Watch

The IWC Vintage Collection Aquatimer Automatic recalls the great glories of IWC as a pioneer of exceptional sports timepieces.

Based upon the design of the original Aquatimer of 1967, this new addition to the IWC watch stable presents collectors with a timepiece which despite its nostalgic design, offers technical surety, capable water resistance, and horological sophistication. Presented in a 44mm case, the IWC Aquatimer Automatic watch features a number of elements that make it a diving tool of distinction, as well as a tribute to famed IWC engineering.

The eye is drawn to the two crowns which are fitted to the right side of the watch; the lower unscrews and can adjust the date, and set the time, while the upper governs the internal rotating bezel--an essential element for the calculation of diving times. Luminous figures on the dial and hands ensure that legibility is excellent regardless of ambient light. As a true diver's instrument should be, the Aquatimer Automatic is perfectly at home in the water, and can descend to 120 meters without any risk of moisture infiltration.

The IWC Vintage Collection Aquatimer Automatic watch houses a superb self-winding movement. Manufactured by IWC, the Caliber 80111 features a date display, central seconds with a stop feature, and a balance wheel frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour. The self-winding system follows the historical design of Albert Pellaton, and relies upon an efficient cam and roller design; integrated shock absorbers that prevent the rotor from striking the plate under severe stresses are another feature that is notable. The sum of all the elements make the 80111 caliber a truly outstanding choice for rugged and sporty applications; yet, each element also testifies to an understanding of sophisticated horological principles. A sapphire crystal window in the caseback allows one to appreciate the various elements that make up this exemplary movement.

IWC offers two versions of this outstanding vintage-inspired sports watch. The regular model is presented in stainless steel, and features a black dial and matching rubber strap. There is also a platinum version, which is presented in a limited series of 500, to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the company's founding 1868 founding. This watch has a striking silver dial, and a strap made from luxurious crocodile.
