The IWC Portuguese Tourbillon Mystere watch is an exceptional creation of classical elegance, and the skill of the master watchmaker. Based upon a famous timepiece which IWC created for two Portuguese businessmen in the 1930's the Tourbillon Mystere takes technical achievement to its pinnacle, with an exceptional self-winding movement that offers a 7-day power reserve, and one of haute horlogerie's greatest technical triumphs--a dazzling flying tourbillon, which revolves mysteriously in its aperture.
Now, this prestigious creation is presented in a stunning 18K red gold case, whose rich beauty is accentuated by a deep grey dial. Upon this luxurious surface, are applied Arabic numerals, a cabochon minute track, and slender leaf hands whose graceful shape compliments the elegant theme of the Portuguese design. A Cotes de Geneve section at the dial apex draws the eye to the mysterious aperture in which the flying tourbillon seems to float, revolving about its own axis once each minute. Beneath the tourbillon is found the small seconds subdial, and the power reserve indicator, which shows the status of the mainspring's 7-day power store. The 50900 movement which animates the IWC Portuguese Tourbillon Mystere watch is manufactured by IWC Watch, and incorporates a range of sophisticated features.
Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback window, its mechanical architecture comes into view, and fascinates with its intricacy, and fine craftsmanship. Key to the operation of this caliber, is the exceptional Pellaton system, which utilizes an innovative cam design--rather than a system of gears--to transmit the rotor's movements into winding energy. The visually powerful central rotor bears a medallion with the famous IWC "Probus Scafusia" motto. Within the elite world of the tourbillon, flying tourbillons, such as the kind utilized in the Mystere, are particularly special. Affixed from underneath rather than across a bridge, flying tourbillons present their mechanical treasures with no visual obstruction, thus making them particularly fascinating to connoisseurs. The balance is fitted with a Breguet spring, whose finely bent terminal curve allows optimal breathing of the hairspring as it pulsates.
Each IWC Portuguese Tourbillon Mystere watch is completed by a fine alligator leather strap and a massively crafted 18K gold folding clasp. Just 500 examples of this timepiece will be manufactured.
