And, like the pocket watches of old, it features a hinged cuvette which snaps open and closed with gentle precision to reveal the glorious mechanism within.

This skeletonized masterpiece, bared in its full intricacy through the beautiful three-dimensional white gold dial, is an exclusive creation of Glashutte Original. Among its most breathtaking attributes are bridges which have been open-worked and engraved by hand with delicate scrolling patterns, accentuated by polished and blued steel screws. Viewed from an angle the depth of the mechanism becomes a fascinating visual journey into the essence of fine craftsmanship, the kind passed from master to apprentice over many years. Supported on a polished steel bridge, the delicate tourbillon cage completes a single rotation each minute, bearing the precisely ticking components of the escapement, and a balance wheel which is affixed with solid gold screws on its rim. The movement also conceals another technical surprise--a retrograde hour complication, beautifully shown on a strikingly long hand crafted from richly blued steel that travels beneath the central dial section.

Among the rarest timepieces in the Glashutte Original Masterpieces collection, only 25 examples of the Julius Assmann 4 watch will be produced.
