The Glashutte Original PanoMaticChrono XL watch is a proud creation of German haute horlogerie. Within its luxurious 18K gold case, resides a spectacular self-winding chronograph movement designed and manufactured in Glashutte.

As exceptional as its engineering is the aesthetic design of this timepiece, which melds classical elements with an idiosyncratic technical aura; the result is a beautiful mechanical object that offers deep appeal on many levels at once. Glashutte Original created the Pano XL watch collection as a result of the desires of collectors for large, substantial timepieces. The PanoMaticChrono XL watch will certainly satisfy this demand--at 42mm in diameter, and 13.5mm in height, it sits atop the wrist with authority and exudes a classic yet strong presence. The silver dial cannot fail to capture admiration, with its unique technical appearance moderated by elegance and serenity. At the lower portion of the dial, the primary time display occupies its own space, while directly above, the chronograph functions take center stage.

An object of instant appeal, the central chronograph seconds dial is strikingly elevated above the main dial plate, presiding over the continuous seconds subdial and the 30-minute chronograph register. The right side of the dial is devoted to the elegant and highly visible panorama date display, with its concentrically oriented discs that switch instantly at the turn of a new day. A sapphire crystal caseback allows an expansive view of an extraordinary mechanical creation--the Glashutte Original Caliber 95. A large central rotor with a 21K gold outer segment travels above a fascinating three-dimensional structure of bridges, polished steel levers, and jewels borne in gold chatons--each secured by shimmering triads of blued steel screws. Additional features of note include a large balance wheel with 18 weighted gold screws, a hand engraved balance cock, and a beveled and polished swan-neck fine adjustment.

The horological engineering of the Caliber 95 movement is as impressive as its refined detail; the chronograph function is governed by a traditionally prestigious column-wheel, and features a sophisticated fly-back function that ensures the central chronograph hand can be safely reset to zero in the middle of a timing sequence. The bi-directional winding system is unique to this movement; it utilizes a clever stepped gear mechanism that allows it to optimize its winding efficiency according to an individual wearer's activity. Two transmissions, one faster and one slower, supply energy to the twin mainspring barrels; once a certain level of energy is accumulated, the rotor cuts its winding motion to unidirectional only, and energy is added solely from the larger (slower) transmission. Mainspring tension reduces accordingly, and wear to the slip spring in the second mainspring barrel is also largely avoided.

The Glashutte Original PanoMaticChrono XL watch is presented in rose or white gold. Both variants are fitted with a luxurious strap in Louisiana alligator, and a matching 18K gold buckle.
