Girard Perregaux Tip of the Week #76

The 50's and 60's have been a period of intense activities for Girard-Perregaux R&D engineers with the development and presentation, in 1965 of the first ever high frequency movement vibrating 36,000 times per an hour, The Gyromatic HF. As a tribute to the advances by Girard-Perregaux in the field of chronometry, the Neuchantel Observatory awarded the brand with an Observatory Centenary Prize one year later.

That year 63,000,000 wrist watches were manufactured in Switzerland , 286,356 of these obtained an official chronometer certificate, and only 200 units passed the Observatory test at Neuchantel; "Competition Prototypes" not fit for regular wear, except 40 of them which were Girard-Perregaux HF Chronometers.
